The Story of Starfield So Far

Few have actually understood the plot of Starfield

In the wake of Starfield’s upcoming DLC “Shattered Space”, I realized that not many people actually knows the plot of Starfield itself.

Earth In Danger

Scientists discovered in 2141 to 2149 that Earth is losing its magnetic field, and estimated that it would completely be lost in the next fifty years. At the same time early faster than light travel called Grav Drives was discovered. These two events are intertwined because testing of the Grav Drives resulted in the magnetic field becoming weaker. The lead scientist knew that Grav Drives was the culprit but hid it from the public as well as his colleagues.

Earth once the magnetic field filly collapsed

In light of discovering the magnetic field weakening, Earth’s governments decided to utilize the Grav Drives to flee to other worlds, the first one being the Alpha Centauri system. They came across an inhabitable planet called Jemison. To encourage mass relocation, the UN became a one-world ruling government, allowing corporations and businesses to form their factions. The first faction known as, Freestar Collective based in the Narion solar system, was Western-themed. They were the first pioneers of outer space. During that same time, a group of settlers left Earth never to be heard again. They ended up forming the House Va’ruun, an isolationist religious faction. They only revealed themselves about two centuries later. Within forty years, the magnetic field on Earth finally collapsed, leaving the planet sterile.

The United Nations reformed into the United Colonies, with their home world being Jamison in the Alpha Centauri system

A New Era For Humanity and the Narion War

It is now 2194, and the Narion solar system voted to join the Freestar Collective. The UN had reformed into the United Colonies. They opposed Narion joining Freestar Collective and declared war against them because Deepala had a space station, The Clinic that held confidential data. The United Colonies demanded that the Clinic be destroyed, but the Freestar collective refused and sent a fleet to protect their newly acquired station. The United Colonies also sent a fleet to try and destroy The Clinic, resulting in a war that lasted from 2196-2216. The United Colonies won a massive battle and forced the Freestar Collective to sign the Treaty of Narion. This treaty in turn defined the areas where humans settled in outer space as Settled Systems. It also limited the governments to only have control of three solar systems. The final point of the treaty is that the United Colonies releases Narion to the Freestar Collective, while the Freestar Collective is forced to pay the Colonies in damages.

The Serpent’s Crusade

In 2242, a mysterious faction called House of Va-ruun appeared and they attacked all factions in a religious war called the Serpent’s Crusade, House of Va-ruun followed the serpent god. Note, that the DLC will be focused more on House of Va-ruun. The Serpents Crusade lasted from 2042 to 2062. The leader of Houde of Va-ruun died suddenly, leaving his son, Jarek, in power. Jarek who is exhausted from the war, signs a peace treaty, making House of Va-ruun one of the three major faction.

The Colony War

In 2208, a conflict started between United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, because of a loophole in the treaty. Claiming new systems was banned but people still could build new outposts within this loophole. The Freestar Collective used this loophole to try to colonize the planet, Vesta, and the United Colonies opposed it. After diplomatic talks failed, a war ensued. This war became known as the colony war, and while it lasted only three years, it was the most brutal, scouring entire planet in its wake. The brutality of the war was due to the use of advanced tech such as Battle Mechs and Xeno warfare which weaponized alien creatures.

There were countless tragedies during this war, one of the worst being the terror on Londonian. The United Colonies bombed Londonian because of the outbreak of an alien creature known as a Terror Morph. Then the United Colonies decided to weaponize the Terror Morphs once they realized how powerful they possessed.

The Colony War finally ended with the battle of Cheyenne. The climactic final battle, saw the Freestar Collective using both military and civilian spaceships against the major ships of the United Colonies. After the battle, both sides agreed to a treaty called the Armistice. The first part of the treaty was that three war criminals who were behind the weaponization of the terror morphs be brought to trial. The other part of the treaty was that mechanized and xeno warfare be banned. It’s important to note that one of the treaty’s negotiators was House of Va-ruun. House Va-ruun served as a neutral third party and offered objective advice, finally ending the colony war and the settled systems were finally at peace.

How The Game Starts

During all this time of humanity’s space colonization, a neutral group called Constellation, focused their efforts on exploring space and ignored the tides of war.  After the Colony War, a member of Constellation discovered an alien artifact that emitted strange energy readings as a result, Constellation shifted from space exploration to finding those artifacts.  On one fateful moment, a member of Constellation, hired a mining company to excavate for a suspected artifact near a planet called Vectara.  Thus kicking off Starfield’s plot as a humble miner…..
